Styles Media Group

Born and raised in Detroit, MI, Kim moved to Ft. Myers, FL in 1980 to begin her radio career working for WHEW FM and WMYR AM as a Sales Person and part time announcer. After serving as GSM for several south Florida stations, Kim and husband Tom founded Styles Broadcasting in 1989. In addition to Market Manager for the Panama City cluster, Kim serves as an advisor to planning and growth of the company.

Kim Styles loved radio from the time she was 9 years old. Growing up in Detroit she loved listening to the great stations WWWW, WRIF, WABX, WCAR, CKLW, WKNR.

In the early 80’s Styles’ family relocated to Fort Myers, FL. It was there Styles got her first job as an Account Executive in 1980 at WMYR-WHEW. Styles finished her education while working in radio and chose it as her career.

ln 1981 Styles accepted a position in Naples, FL, and was the only female Account Executive. In 1983 Styles was promoted to General Sales Manager. Although she was offered several opportunities to transfer, she knew what she really wanted…

Styles goal was always ownership, and with the assistance of a loyal advertiser in Naples, Styles purchased her first radio station WRBA in Panama City in 1989.

In 1993 Styles purchased a construction permit and built Kat Kountry 105.1. This station rivaled the market leader WPAP and after 2 ½ years Kat Kountry beat the 25 year old heritage station. I n 1998 Styles purchased WYOO and WDLP, WPCF and three stations in the New Orleans area.

Styles sold WRBA and WAKT to Root Communications in 1997. WYOO,WPCF, WDLP were sold in 2000 to NextMedia. April of 2002, NextMedia decided to sell the Panama City Stations. A deal was made and Styles bought her three stations back (WYOO,WPCF,WDLP) along with stations WILN and WYYX from NextMedia and formed Styles Media Group, LLC. Styles still maintained stations in New Orleans and in Dothan. In 2002 Styles sold the New Orleans stations and invested more money into Styles Media Group, LLC. January of 2003, Styles Media Group owned and operated 9 radio stations in Panama City and Dothan. As of March, 2006, Styles Media has stations in Panama City, Dothan, Riverside, CA and Los Angeles, CA

1995 Styles “filled in” as a morning show co-host on her Classic Rock Station. 5 years later the show “Styles & Ryan” was #1 with adults 25-54.

I n 1998 Styles and her partner “Ryan” left the rock arena and hosted a talk show on her FM Talk Station 101.1. Of course the day just got started after the morning shows, Styles got off the air and went to work as the stations General Manager each day. On air was a treat although very taxing. The listeners made each day a joy to come in.

Styles truly believes that radio should help the community first and foremost.

The company, Styles Media, creates a culture and environment, which allows individuals to grow using their particular strengths without severe restrictions at the same time serving the community.
